Because of my previous work Congress returned to power in Rajasthan in 2018: Ashok Gehlot

All is not well in Rajasthan Congress. Once again, the Chief Minister of the state Ashok Gehlot and former Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot are seen making statements against both. The rift between the two is clearly visible. Amidst all this, now Ashok Gehlot has given himself the credit for the victory in the 2018 elections. Responding to Sachin Pilot, he said that the return of the Congress to power in 2018 was due to the work done by him in the previous term. Along with this, he also set a target of winning 156 seats in the assembly elections to be held later this year.

Sachin Pilot, who has been stuck in a power tussle with Gehlot for a long time, had recently said that Congress returned to power due to the struggle of party leaders and workers during the period from 2013 to 2018 when he was the state Congress Committee president. Pilot has repeatedly said that the number of Congress MLAs, which had reduced to 21 in 2013, increased only after he was made the PCC chief.

Ashok Gehlot, without naming Pilot, said that the 2013 defeat was largely due to the ‘Modi wave’, but in the six months of the BJP government in the state, people had realized their mistake.

How did the Congress return to power?

Talking to reporters at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium after the Republic Day programme, Chief Minister Gehlot said, “The atmosphere that is created is also a big reason for the government to come back. The rest of the reasons are our workers, our party struggles.” Yes, it hits the streetsHowever, it was in the mind (of the public) that last time we made a mistake by changing the government in 2013 and that is why this time the air was already there that the government should come and Ashok Gehlot should become the chief minister.”

‘BJP has no issue’

Gehlot claimed that the BJP has no issue to speak against his government and there is no anti-incumbency sentiment among the people and the people are happy with the schemes and programs of the government. He said that state schemes like Chiranjeevi Health Insurance are being talked about across the country and the employees are happy to revive the old pension scheme.

‘We are carrying mission 156’

Ashok Gehlot said, “Our path is very clear. When we formed the government in 1998, we got 156 seats, at that time I was the state Congress president, so I would like us to carry out a mission of 156. For this we have started work. Gehlot further said that his MLAs supported him and helped him deal with infighting during the political crisis in 2020, which saved his government. The Chief Minister said that he fought hard to save his government and serve the people and would continue to do so till his last breath.
