Rajasthan: Highlighting the abundant sporting talent in Rajasthan, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot inaugurated the Rajiv Gandhi Rural Olympic Games and the debut edition of the Urban Games 2023 at SMS Stadium on Saturday.
Over 58 lakh participants for Rajasthan Games
With a remarkable registration count of 58.51 lakh participants, including 24.46 lakh women, the two Games are set to take place in 11,252-gram panchayats and 528 civic bodies. The Chief Minister emphasised the evident importance of doing sports as he spoke to the excited gathering of children packing the stadium.
During the opening ceremony, CM Gehlot stated, “There is no dearth of talent here. And our government is there to provide the youngsters with a platform and backing to rise and shine through these Games.” Adding further, he said, “It builds strong personalities. Also, sports help in quick decision making, develop farsightedness, will to succeed in life and sportsman spirit to take on success and failures with equal responsibility.”
CM Gehlot honours the athletes
Gehlot also honoured notable athletes for their outstanding accomplishments, including boxer Khushi Punia, wrestler Ashvini Vishnoi, kabbadi player Jai Bhagwan, athlete Neeraj Baloda, and shot ball players Muskan Kathed and Shireen Khan. Sapna Punia and Khushi, racewalkers, led the ceremonial cauldron lighting ceremony to kick off the Games.
State Sports Minister Ashok Chandna and Rajasthan State Sports Council (RSSC) Chairperson Krishna Poonia both addressed the crowds during the ceremony, outlining the government’s committed efforts over the previous five years to support and help sportsmen.
