Following the submission of the AICC observers’ report to Congress president Sonia Gandhi amid a simmering leadership crisis in the western state, three close aides and important supporters of Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot received notices on Tuesday for indiscipline. However, the observers did not demand that Gehlot be punished.
The three leaders were deemed responsible for the drama that occurred on Sunday when a majority of Gehlot-supporting Congress MLAs met concurrently in a minister’s home while a Congress Legislature Party meeting was scheduled at the chief minister’s residence. Later, they went to the home of speaker CP Joshi to hand in their resignations in case Gehlot was requested to step down after being elected as the Congress president and Sachin Pilot was nominated as Gehlot’s successor.
Shanti Dhariwal, the cabinet minister, Dharmendra Rathore, the head of the RTDC, and Mahesh Joshi, the main whip for the Congress in the Assembly, are the three individuals against whom the Congress observers proposed disciplinary action.
