Rajasthan: Hamid, Nasir’s brother, recalled the chief minister assuring the family that all the suspects in the case would be quickly apprehended. Gehlot added that he is in constant contact with Haryana’s chief minister, Manohar Lal Khattar, and is looking into every avenue for bringing the accused to justice.
Protesters were reportedly taken into custody
More than 20 residents of the village have been protesting outside the Ghatmeeka Eidgah since December 17 and calling for justice for Nasir and Junaid. Three of these protesters were reportedly taken into custody by the police during Gehlot’s visit. One protester at the Ghatmeeka Eidgah expressed dissatisfaction and said they intended to carry on with their nonviolent demonstration.
State’s police force is carrying out its duties
According to Hamid, Gehlot promised one member of each family from Junaid and Nasir a government position that would begin on a temporary basis and possibly transition to a permanent position after Holi. Nasir’s brother responded that the protesters who were alleging that the Congress government wanted to put an end to the protest share this sentiment. They think the state’s police force is carrying out its duties, and protests might divert them from their primary objective of bringing the accused to justice. They don’t just want money or job opportunities; they want justice for their loved ones.
No murder charges mentioned
After being accused of cow smuggling, Nasir and Junaid are said to have been attacked and kidnapped by a mob who later set them on fire while they were still alive inside of their car. Both men were citizens of the Bharatpur district’s Ghatmeeka village in Rajasthan. Hindu right-wing organisations held a mahapanchayat in Haryana to support Monu Manesar, one of the accused.
The police FIR names four men who are all allegedly Bajrang Dal members and self-described cow protectors. So far, only Rinku Saini has been taken into custody. The FIR was filed in accordance with Sections 143 (illegal assembly), 365 (abduction), 367 (kidnapping or abducting a person with the intent to cause them great bodily harm or to force them into slavery), and 368. (wrongful confinement). Locals have questioned why there are no murder charges mentioned.
