Indian Army Southern Command To Conduct Investiture Ceremony

Taking forward the initiative of rejuvenation and development of sarovars in various towns and villages of Southern India, the Southern Command of the Army has taken up the mission Amrit Sarovar theme to revive and develop 75 sarovars in different parts of Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana. Under Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Kerala and Rajasthanlaunched a campaign. On the occasion of Amrit Mahotsav of Independence and Army Day 2023, the Indian Army took this initiative to contribute towards nation building. Mission Amrit Sarovar was launched by the Government of India on 24 April 2022 with the aim of conserving water for the future.

Southern Command has identified 75 sites at various locations

Taking this initiative forward, the Southern Command has identified 75 sites at various locations. The work towards this initiative is going on under joint effort of Army Engineer and PWD in association with Civil Administration and Gram Panchayats. Keeping in view the environmental factors, the construction of these Amrit Sarovars will also be a part of the overall water harvesting scheme, which will help in removing the water crisis of the villages.

Through this initiative Indian Army has tried to spread the message of Jal Hai To Jeevan Hai involving the entire community and motivating them to take this initiative forward. The activity of rejuvenation and development of sarovars will be a continuous association, helping to improve the quality of life in villages and remote areas of the country.

Rejuvenation and development work is in progress at 25 places in Rajasthan and Gujarat under Amrit Sarovar Project under the aegis of Konark Corps. This work has been done by the Konark Corps of Engineers using their enormous resources to clean, widen and deepen the existing tanks.

Creation of the reservoir will greatly help the bird and wildlife conservation

In a project Army Engineers under the Desert Corps actively assisted the local people in building a 4000 square meter reservoir, which helped save the existence of thousands of aquatic and endangered birds, especially the Great Indian Bustard. After the completion of the work, the pond has been handed over to Khettolai Gram Panchayat on 10 January 2023. The camaraderie and harmony between the Army and the villagers was witnessed during the event. The creation of the reservoir will greatly help the bird and wildlife conservation efforts of the government and wildlife department to conserve local and migratory birds found in the area. The Desert Corps, with the active participation and cooperation of the local population and students, is an important step towards nation building.
