BJP Calls for Removal of Rajasthan Chief Secretary Ahead of State Elections

A delegation led by Leader of Opposition Rajendra Rathore met with the Chief Electoral Officer of the Election Department, Praveen Gupta, to submit a memorandum outlining their concerns. They emphasized that, under the model code of conduct, an officer with an extension cannot retain their post.

Rajasthan is scheduled to hold elections on November 25

Rajasthan is scheduled to hold elections on November 25, with the counting of votes set for December 3. Both major parties, the Congress and the BJP, have released lists of their respective candidates.

Rathore explained that the Election Commission has issued directives that government officials whose service has been extended should not be involved in any election-related activities. He further argued that Sharma’s service period had ended, but the Gehlot government had extended her tenure. This extension raised concerns that she might not work impartially and could potentially misuse her position to favor the ruling party.

Sharma serves as the chairperson of the screening committee established by the Election Commission, a committee that falls under the jurisdiction of the Chief Secretary. Rathore emphasized the urgency of removing Sharma from her position to ensure the integrity of the election process and invalidate any decisions made by her after the model code of conduct came into effect.
