Jairam Ramesh: Congress leader Jairam Ramesh has posed several pointed questions to Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Jalore and Banswara in Rajasthan. Ramesh’s questions target various issues concerning the state’s governance and development under the BJP-led government.
Rollback of Pro-People Schemes:
Ramesh questioned the BJP government’s decision to roll back pro-people schemes initiated by the Congress Party during its tenure in Rajasthan. He highlighted several key initiatives, including the Rajasthan Minimum Guaranteed Income Act, additional days for MGNREGA, and the Right to Health Act. Ramesh expressed concern over the discontinuation of these schemes and the impact on vulnerable populations in the state.
Threat to Orans:
Another issue raised by Ramesh pertains to the controversial amendment to the Forest Conservation Act (FCA) in 2023, which poses a threat to Rajasthan’s Orans (community forests). He criticized the BJP government for stripping protection from these sacred forests, leaving them vulnerable to destruction and exploitation for development projects. Ramesh questioned the government’s priorities and its willingness to prioritize the interests of rural communities over commercial ventures.
Languishing Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project (ERCP):
Ramesh also highlighted the prolonged delay in granting national project status to the Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project (ERCP). He pointed out the promises made by PM Modi in 2018 regarding the project’s status and the subsequent failure to fulfill these commitments. Ramesh criticized the BJP government for neglecting the basic water needs of Rajasthan’s villages and failing to address the concerns raised by former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot.
Through his questions, Jairam Ramesh seeks accountability from the Prime Minister and raises important issues concerning governance, environmental conservation, and infrastructure development in Rajasthan.
