Following the Gurjar agitation, Rajasthan is now witnessing a Jat Reservation Agitation, with the Jat community in Bharatpur-Dholpur raising concerns about the benefits of OBC reservation in central government jobs. The community staged a massive protest in the village of Jaicholi in the Uchchain region on Wednesday. This is the second day of the agitation, and the Jat community has issued an ultimatum to the government, stating that if their demands are not met by January 22, they will block railway tracks and roads, causing disruptions, and the agitation may escalate into violence.
Jat Reservation Agitation Intensifies in Rajasthan, Threatens Rail Blockade
To ensure security, the railway administration has heightened vigilance, deploying 52 personnel from the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and 78 personnel from the Government Railway Police (GRP) at Jaicholi Railway Station. The railway authorities are closely monitoring the situation, and additional police forces may be summoned if required.
The demand for reservation for Jats in central jobs dates back to 1998, and the recent unrest is triggered by the denial of these demands. The 2013 decision by the Manmohan Singh government granted OBC reservation to Jats in Bharatpur and Dholpur along with nine other states. However, in 2015, the Modi government reversed this decision for Bharatpur and Dholpur. In 2017, the Vasundhara Raje-led government in Rajasthan finally provided OBC reservation to Jats in both districts. Despite these efforts, the central government has not granted the requested reservation, leading to the current agitation, which threatens to disrupt railway tracks and roads.
