Despite the geographical conditions and scattered habitations, the state government is leaving no stone unturned to complete the works of Jal Jeevan Mission. This is an ambitious plan for ‘Har Ghar Jal’. The state government is working with full commitment to solve the drinking water problem. He instructed to pay special attention to the availability of accessible drinking water and quality in works by completing major water projects at the earliest.
CM Gehlot was addressing the review meeting of Jal Jeevan Mission at Chief Minister’s residence on Wednesday. He said that development of permanent water sources should also be ensured in the state. So that the problem of drinking water does not come in future. In the past, the works of Jal Jeevan Mission have been taken forward rapidly in the state.
For effective implementation of this mission, minimize the time taken for various level approvals so that work can start on the ground soon. He directed to take strict action against illegal connections, use of boosters and damage to lines in the state.
Dr. Subodh Agarwal, Additional Chief Secretary, Public Health Engineering Department, said that Rajasthan ranks third in the country in providing daily water connections under the mission. An average of 7142 connections were given daily in the state in February 2023 and a target has been set to provide an average of 8000 connections per day in March 2023. The department has given 6 times more connections per day on an average in February 2023 as compared to May 2022. About 36.28 lakh connections have been issued so far. He told that this progress of Rajasthan has also been appreciated by the Central Government.
Rajasthan ahead in financial progress as well
Rs 13,000 crore has been spent so far in the Jal Jeevan Mission for providing easy drinking water to the common man. In this, Rajasthan ranks fourth among the leading states of the country. In the year 2022-23, double the amount of Rs 6700 crore has been spent as compared to Rs 3488 crore in the last financial year. An expenditure of about Rs 7500 crore is targeted for this year.
Departmental officials said that a letter has been sent to the Central Government for approval of 5 major projects. With their approval and completion of work, 5739 villages of Alwar, Bharatpur, Karauli, Sawai Madhopur, Dholpur, Pratapgarh, Chittorgarh, Rajsamand, Udaipur, Sikar and Jhunjhunu will get water. In this, a cost of Rs 23,941 crore is proposed.
Drinking water supply from Chauhtan, Gudamalani, Dhorimanna and Sindhari in Barmer district, Udaipurwati and Surajgarh, Dausa, Sawai Madhopur, Isarda dam in Jhunjhunu district, Kumbharam lift project, Parvan dam based drinking water project, Navnera barrage, Chambal-Dhaulpur-Bharatpur big Drinking water project, Begun, Nimbahera and Chambal riverDetailed discussions were held on various projects including Chittorgarh drinking water project, Chambal Bhilwara project, Chambal-Alwar-Bharatpur project. Public Health Engineering Minister Dr. Mahesh Joshi, Minister of State for Public Health Engineering Arjun Singh Bamnia, Additional Chief Secretary Finance Akhil Arora, Jal Jeevan Mission Managing Director Avichal Chaturvedi and senior officers were present in the meeting.
