On Friday, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot took a dig at the BJP-led Central Government over the appointment of Arjun Ram Meghwal as a law minister, stating that if the ruling party intended to make him a minister, he should have been given cabinet position.
He added that the BJP wants to advance a politician from a Scheduled Caste before the Lok Sabha Election in 2024.
“If they wanted to make Arjun Ram Meghwal, a minister then he should have been given cabinet status. He was given independent charge as Minister of State. He is a leader from Scheduled Caste, he should be promoted. The people of Rajasthan would be happy,” Gehlot said to ANI.
The chief minister of Rajasthan arrived in Bengaluru on Friday to take part in Siddaramaih’s oath-taking as the new chief minister of Karnataka.
As Kiren Rijiju’s replacement, Arjun Ram Meghwal assumed independent responsibility as the Ministry of Law and Justice on Thursday.
As Minister of State (Independent charge) of Law and Justice, Arjun Ram Meghwal received best wishes from Kiren Rijiju. Kiren Rijiju has now moved to the Ministry of Earth Sciences from the Ministry of Law and Justice.
After being reshuffled and having his portfolio transferred from the Ministry of Earth and Sciences to the Ministry of Law and Justice, MP Kiren Rijiju said it has been an honour to serve as the Union Minister of Law and Justice.
According to a statement released by the President’s Secretariat on Thursday, Arjun Ram Meghwal has taken Kiren Rijiju’s place as the Union and Justice Minister.
The Ministry of Earth Sciences has since taken on Kiren Rijijiu.
“The President of India, as advised by the Prime Minister, has been pleased to direct the following reallocation of portfolios among Ministers in the Union Council of Ministers, the portfolio of Ministry of Earth Sciences be assigned to Kiren Rijiju and Arjun Ram Meghwal, Minister of State be assigned the independent charge as Minister of State in the Ministry of Law and Justice in addition to his existing portfolios, in place of Shri Kiren Rijiju,” the communique added.
