Rajasthan News: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is set to commence his party’s campaign for the upcoming assembly elections in Rajasthan by holding a rally in Banswara, a tribal stronghold within the state. This event will take place on Wednesday, coinciding with International Tribal Day. The rally is scheduled to be held at Mangarh Dham, a revered site among the tribal communities across Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Gujarat.
This rally holds significance as it marks Rahul Gandhi’s first public engagement subsequent to the restoration of his Lok Sabha membership. The restoration came about due to the Supreme Court’s intervention, which placed a stay on his conviction in the ‘Modi surname’ case.
For decades, Dalits and tribals have traditionally been a dependable vote bank for the Congress. However, over the past few years, the BJP and other parties have managed to make inroads into this vote bank, thereby diminishing the Congress’s influence. The Congress party is now making efforts to regain the support of these communities. The BJP’s strong presence was evident when they organized a major gathering at Mangarh Dham on November 1, 2022, which was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The BJP has positioned itself as a staunch advocate for tribal interests, highlighted by the appointment of Droupadi Murmu as the President.
The tribal-dominated districts of Udaipur, Banswara, Dungarpur, and Pratapgarh collectively contribute 18 assembly seats. Currently, the BJP holds eight of these seats, the Congress has seven, while the Bharatiya Tribal Party (BTP) and an Independent candidate share the remaining three.
