Rajasthan Assembly Election 2023: Rajasthan’s Chief Minister, Ashok Gehlot, addressed speculation of a fresh dispute with Sachin Pilot ahead of state elections, emphasizing the unity of the party. While hinting at Pilot, Gehlot humorously stated that he wanted to relinquish the chief minister’s post, but it seemed to stick with him.
Gehlot shared an anecdote where a woman wished for him to become Chief Minister for the fourth time, to which he humorously responded about the post not leaving him.
Factionalism within the Rajasthan Congress:
He noted that there must be a reason the party high command chose him to lead the state thrice. These comments hold significance given the factionalism within the Rajasthan Congress, especially with Sachin Pilot not being invited to a Congress Working Committee meeting in Delhi.
No fresh conflict:
Gehlot denied any fresh conflict with Pilot and stated he adopted a policy of “forgive and forget.” He attributed rumors of infighting to the BJP’s interference.
Gehlot also clarified that he didn’t oppose any candidate from the Pilot camp during ticket distribution. The Congress Election Committee, with key figures like Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Mallikarjun Kharge, discussed candidates for the Rajasthan assembly polls.
Kharge expressed confidence that the Congress would maintain power in Rajasthan, citing the good governance of the Ashok Gehlot administration in the past five years.
