Rajasthan Assembly Election 2023: Rajasthan Assembly Elections Begin Amid High Stakes and Controversies

Polling commenced for 199 assembly seats in Rajasthan, where the BJP aims to dislodge the Congress, which is grappling with the state’s anti-incumbency trend. Union Minister of State Kailash Chaudhary cast his vote early in Balotra. While Rajasthan has 200 assembly seats, elections in the Karanpur seat were postponed due to the death of Congress candidate Gurmeet Singh Koonar. The state has never elected the same party in consecutive assembly elections, presenting a challenge for the incumbent Congress government led by Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot.

Unemployment Woes and Paper Leak Controversy Impact Elections

Rajasthan, grappling with a high unemployment rate, has witnessed controversy over a paper leak in a government teacher recruitment exam. The BJP has capitalized on the issue, portraying it as emblematic of corruption within the Gehlot administration. The election dynamics are heightened by these challenges, with voters heading to the polls to determine the fate of candidates across 199 constituencies. Voting hours are from 7 am to 6 pm, and the counting is scheduled for December 3.

Voters Play Decisive Role in Rajasthan’s Political Landscape

With 5,26,90,146 voters spread across 51,890 polling stations in the assembly constituencies, Rajasthan’s electorate holds the key to the political future of the state. Among the voters, 1,70,99,334 belong to the 18-30 age group, including 22,61,008 new voters aged 18-19. Over 3 lakh individuals have already cast their votes through postal ballots, contributing to the overall electoral dynamics. The election outcome is eagerly awaited, given the state’s historical trend of alternating between parties in successive assembly elections.
