Controversy is continuously increasing across the country over the controversial BBC documentary ‘India: The Modi Question’ on the Gujarat riots. The atmosphere has heated up in many universities of the country regarding the screening of the documentary, where it was first screened in the University of Hyderabad, then there was an uproar over the screening in JNU and Jamia. At the same time, the case of suspension of students has come to the fore in the Central University of Rajasthan under Bandarsindri police station area in Kishangarh, Ajmer district of Rajasthan.
According to the information, 10 students have been suspended for 14 days by the administration for allegedly watching some documentaries on the Republic Day (January 26) evening in the campus of the Central University of Rajasthan.
Although the students say that they had seen the documentary on mobile only.
On January 27, the university administration issued a notice saying that after a meeting of the Proctorial Board, it has been decided to suspend 10 students from the campus and hostel for 14 days in view of indiscipline in the campus. However, the university has not mentioned the documentary in the suspension order and the suspension order has been sent personally to the students.
Here the suspended students allege that after watching the documentary on mobile and laptop, this decision was taken by the university on the complaint of some students. At the same time, the expelled students allege that while watching the documentary, they were misbehaved and objectionable slogans were raised.
What happened on 26 January?
On January 26, students in the campus were informed through a social media poster that a screening of BBC documentary was held near the post office at 7 pm on Republic Day, where some students started watching the documentary on mobile, but at the same time During this, the two sides of the students came face to face there. And the atmosphere heated up. Satyam Rai, a student of the university, told that on January 26, a group of students started watching the documentary where some students protested and sloganeering broke out among themselves. At the same time, after the tension increased, the police were called from Bandarsindri police station and the police got the matter calm. Rai said that the administration held a meeting the next day and suspended some students who were found guilty of indiscipline and sloganeering, all from Kerala.
Some students threatened us in the hostel: Suspended student
While talking to media, a suspended student told that on January 26, some of us students gathered outside the poster office to watch the documentary and we were watching it there on our phones. Only after this the security guards came there and the police were also called. At the same time, some students belonging to ABVP organization came and started raising ‘Jai Shri Ram’ and other objectionable slogans, but the police sent them all away.
At the same time, the suspended student claimed that after this messages were sent on some WhatsApp groups in which the students were asked to gather near the basketball court. During this, slogans like ‘traitors of the country, leave India’ were also raised there. And at 10 pm, some students shouted slogans and entered our hostel and also switched off the lights, threatened us by raising slogans.
At the same time, it is also alleged by the suspended students that a list was given to the administration by the students of ABVP itself, after which the students were suspended from the same list. However, the administration has denied this.
University bans documentary screeningOn the other hand, the next day (January 27) of the documentary controversy, the university issued an advisory saying that the central university provides a conducive environment for all students to live in and it is everyone’s responsibility to maintain a peaceful environment and law and order in the campus.
According to the advisory, it has been observed that some students were found roaming in the campus during the night and there was sloganeering and disturbance of peace in the middle of the night. In such a situation, it is advised to stay away from such activities, otherwise indiscipline action will be taken in this regard.
At the same time, another notice said that “in view of the controversy over a documentary on social media and other media platforms, its screening is banned in the campus. The administration said that this decision has been taken to maintain peace and security of the students in the campus.”
