Rajasthan News: During the inauguration of the state-level ‘Yuva Mahapanchayat’, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot brought attention to the distressing issue of student suicides in Kota. Kota is renowned for its coaching centers that prepare students for various competitive exams. Gehlot expressed his deep concern about the tragic suicides of 20 students within the past eight months in the city. Reflecting on his own journey, he shared that he once aspired to be a doctor during his childhood. He recalled studying late into the night but ultimately took a different path that led him to become a social worker and a politician.

In a video shared by news agency ANI, Gehlot’s words resonated, “It is a matter of concern that 20 students committed suicide in the last eight months in Kota. I myself wanted to become a doctor in my childhood, used to study till 2-3 in the night, but did not succeed. However, I did not lose courage. I changed my path, became a social worker, entered politics and today I am in front of you.”
He emphasized the significance of families supporting their children’s aspirations rather than pressuring them, saying, “Children’s families must also understand that they should not put pressure on their children. Let them be whatever they want to be.”
Gehlot’s remarks are particularly relevant in light of recent tragic events. A 17-year-old student named Manish Prajapat, who was preparing for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) at a coaching institute in Kota, reportedly took his own life by hanging in his hostel room. This is the third suspected suicide by a student from Kota’s coaching institutes in the past two weeks.
