Rajasthan: After police personnel in Jaipur, seized their music system on the orders of the Jaipur Police Commissionerate, a significant number of Kanwariyas protested in front of a police station. Loud music has been prohibited by the commissionerate during Yatra. An incident was reported on Sunday close to Bagru village.
Following the seizure of the sound system, numerous additional Kanwariya assembled at the police station and began a sit-in protest against the government. Villagers joined the protest demanding the release of DJ who was taken from the pilgrims along with irate Kanwariyas.
Following the protest, police officers from six adjacent police stations—Bagru, Bhankrota, SEZ, Bindayaka, Kalwad, and Karnivihar—were summoned in. To prevent any adverse incidents during the protest staged in front of the police station, authorities also deployed riot control vehicles.
Bagru ACP Anil Sharma reached the spot to pacify the situation by talking to the Kanwariyas. However, the Kanwariyas stuck to their demand and said that they should be allowed to use DJ vehicles during the Yatra. The pilgrims alleged that the police never confiscate DJs used during political campaigning but they do so when DJs are played in religious functions.
The police officials while trying to settle the situation cited the orders of the Jaipur Police Commissionerate that mandated DJs to be banned based on which they had taken action against Kawad Yatris. The demonstration was finally called off after four hours during which several rounds of talks were held between the police and the Kanwariya pilgrims.
