Husband kills wife in staged road accident to get Rs 1.90 cr insurance money

A man allegedly killed his wife to get insurance amount of Rs 1.90 crore by hiring a history-sheeter. Police said that Shalu along with her cousin Raju was going to a temple on a motorcycle on October 5 at the request of her husband Mahesh Chand. At around 4.45 am, an SUV hit her vehicle. The woman died on the spot. Her cousin died during treatment.

The police said that it appeared to be a road accident and the family members of the woman had also suspected the same thing. However, during the investigation, it was revealed that Mahesh Chand had conspired to kill his wife for the insurance money. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), West, Vandita Rana said on Wednesday that Mahesh Chand had got Shalu insured for a period of 40 years. The official said that the sum insured was Rs 1 crore on natural death and Rs 1.90 crore on accidental death. Mahesh Chand had given supari to history sheeter Mukesh Singh Rathore for Shalu’s murder.

Rathore had demanded Rs 10 lakh for this work

Police said that Rathore had demanded Rs 10 lakh for this work and was given Rs 5.5 lakh in advance. Rathore also involved other people in this work. Shalu married Mahesh Chand in 2015 and they also have a daughter, but after two years of marriage, there was a dispute between them and she started living in her maternal home.

According to the police, he had also registered a case of domestic violence in 2019. Mahesh Chand had recently got Shalu insured. Police said that later he told Shalu that he had asked for a vow and to fulfill it Shalu would have to go to the Hanuman temple for 11 consecutive days on a motorcycle without informing anyone. He also said that once the vow is fulfilled, he will bring it home. On this, Shalu started going to the temple with her cousin on a motorcycle.

Police said that on October 5, when Shalu and Raju were going to the temple, Rathore along with three others followed them in an SUV and rammed their motorcycle. Police said that Mahesh Chand was on a motorcycle behind the SUV. He returned from the spot after the accident. Rathore and two other SUV owners Rakesh Singh and Sonu have also been arrested. Police said that two other accused are absconding.
