Rajasthan News: In response to the Supreme Court’s ruling on the inclusion of the creamy layer in Scheduled Caste (SC) reservations, Rajasthan witnessed widespread protests as part of the Bharat Bandh called by various Dalit and Adivasi organizations. The bandh, aimed at challenging the Supreme Court’s decision, has led to significant disruptions across the state.
Internet Shutdown in Four Districts
To prevent the spread of unrest, internet services have been suspended in four districts of Bharatpur division: Bharatpur, Karauli, Sawai Madhopur, and Deeg-Kumher. The bandh has also impacted educational institutions, with schools and colleges shut down in Jaipur and 15 other districts across the state.
Violence and Protests Erupt in Jodhpur
In Jodhpur, the protests turned violent as demonstrators threw hot oil, causing injuries. The protestors also climbed onto police posts, shouting slogans against the Supreme Court’s decision. The situation in the city has led to heightened security measures and the suspension of public transportation services, including buses.
National Support for the Bandh
The Bharat Bandh has garnered support from various political parties and social organizations. The ‘National Confederation of Dalit and Adivasi Organizations,’ which called for the bandh, has issued a list of demands, including justice and equality for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Other Backward Classes. The bandh is part of a broader movement seeking to protect the rights and reservations of marginalized communities in India.
