Rajasthan News: In a significant development, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhagwan Lal Sharma and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav have reached an agreement on the Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project (ERCP) after their meeting in Jaipur. Both states have found common ground on the majority of issues related to the project, marking a substantial and beneficial beginning for both Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.
Breakthrough Agreement Between Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh on Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project
Madhya Pradesh CM Dr. Mohan Yadav expressed satisfaction, stating that a long-standing issue has now been resolved. The canal project, which aimed to connect rivers during Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s tenure, had faced obstacles during subsequent Congress rule. The plan includes the construction of seven dams in Madhya Pradesh, benefiting several districts, including Bhind, Morena, and Gwalior. Further discussions are expected, with a consensus anticipated in Delhi later in the evening.
Madhya Pradesh on Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project
Chief Minister Bhagwan Lal Sharma highlighted the necessity of the Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project for both states. He criticized the Congress government for politicizing the issue, asserting that the current plan would bring irrigation to 2.8 lakh hectares in Rajasthan and address water scarcity issues in 13 districts. Sharma expressed confidence in taking the project forward with the support of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
It’s worth noting that the ERCP has been a contentious political issue over the past five years, with accusations and counter-accusations between the previous Gehlot-led government in Rajasthan and the central government. The resolution of this matter holds significance ahead of the upcoming assembly elections.
