Rajasthan News: Hope for Cheaper Electricity from Dholpur and Ramgarh Gas-Based Power Plants as Rajasthan Signs MoU with GAIL India

Rajasthan News: The Dholpur and Ramgarh gas-based power plants, which have been seen as white elephants, may soon begin producing cheaper electricity. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed at the Rajasthan International Centre in the presence of the state’s Energy Minister. The MoU, between Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam (RRVUNL) and the Central Public Sector Undertaking GAIL India Limited, aims to revive these plants.

The MoU will explore ways to ensure the supply of gas at reasonable rates to the two plants, which have a combined capacity of 600.5 MW. Additionally, it will assess how the installation of a 1,000 MW solar power plant can further reduce electricity costs. The Dholpur plant has a capacity of 330 MW, while the Ramgarh plant has a capacity of 270.5 MW, with a total investment of ₹4,200 crores anticipated through this initiative.

Rajasthan Sets a National Example with MoU

Sandeep Gupta, Chairman and Managing Director of GAIL India, praised the Rajasthan government’s initiative, stating that the MoU sets a unique example for the entire country. The signing ceremony was also attended by Alok Gupta, Chairman of Rajasthan Renewable Energy Corporation, and Nathmal Diddel, Managing Director of Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Prasaran Nigam Limited (RVPNL).

The partnership between Rajasthan and GAIL India is expected to revitalize the Dholpur and Ramgarh power plants, providing a significant boost to the state’s energy sector and setting a precedent for similar collaborations across India.
