Rajasthan News: Cyber criminals are resorting to sophisticated methods involving artificial intelligence (AI) to perpetrate fraud, warns Rajasthan Police. In a recent modus operandi, fraudsters impersonate police officers over phone calls using voice cloning technology, targeting unsuspecting individuals.
Cyber Fraud Alert
The modus operandi begins with the fraudsters contacting victims via WhatsApp calls, presenting themselves as law enforcement officials. The WhatsApp display picture (DP) of the caller often features an image of a genuine police officer, adding to the deception.
Cyber Criminals Exploit AI for Voice Cloning
Once the call is initiated, the fraudsters proceed to manipulate the victim by fabricating allegations, such as involvement in a rape case. Leveraging AI-powered voice cloning, the fraudsters impersonate police officers convincingly, instilling fear and coercion.
Victims are then coerced into paying hefty sums of money under the threat of prolonged legal proceedings and severe penalties. The fraudulent scheme preys on the victim’s vulnerability and trust in law enforcement authorities.
To combat such cyber crimes, authorities urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the Cyber Helpdesk at 1930 or through the official website www.cybercrime.gov.in. Taking proactive measures and raising awareness are crucial in thwarting cyber fraud and safeguarding individuals from falling victim to such scams.
