Rajasthan Roadways Plans to Add Over 1,000 Buses in the Next 6 Months
Over the past three years, the lack of new bus purchases has led to a decrease in the fleet size, with only about 2,500 operational buses available. Efforts are being made to enhance the fleet size and restore it to the average of around 4,500 buses that was maintained for the past two decades.
The tender processes underway include the purchase of 590 buses, comprising 340 express buses and 250 star line and sleeper buses. Proposals from manufacturing companies for the star line and sleeper buses are awaited. Negotiations are in the final stages with Tata and Ashok Leyland, who have submitted proposals for the 340 express buses at a rate of Rs 21.05 lakh per bus. The roadways administration is working to finalize the purchase and anticipates providing work orders after obtaining permission from the election department. Additionally, tenders have been initiated to acquire 400 express buses and 76 AC deluxe buses through contracts.
