Rajasthan News: In an effort to address the rising suicide rates among girl students in Kota’s coaching hub, the district administration has established five special women squads. Each squad, led by an administrative officer, will include a Rajasthan Administrative Service (RAS) officer, a sub-inspector (SI), and a doctor. These squads aim to regularly interact with girls at coaching centers, providing mental health support and addressing other issues they may face while studying away from home. The decision comes after recent incidents of student suicides in Kota, highlighting the need for additional support and preventive measures.
Key Points:
- The special women squads will submit detailed reports to the district collector every 15 days, ensuring ongoing monitoring and intervention.
- Sunita Daga, the registrar of Kota Agricultural University, is supervising these squads, emphasizing the importance of addressing mental health issues faced by girls studying in Kota.
- The initiative recognizes that girls, particularly teenagers, may deal with various challenges away from home, contributing to mental health concerns and, in extreme cases, suicide.
- Recent incidents of student suicides in Kota have prompted the district administration to take proactive measures to support students and prevent such tragic outcomes.
- Kota is a prominent coaching hub, and approximately half of the student population in coaching centers across the city are girls.
- The squads will operate initially in densely populated coaching areas like Jawahar Nagar, Vigyan Nagar, Kunhadi, and Borkheda, with the possibility of expanding their presence based on effectiveness.
- The interaction between the squads and students will be kept confidential, ensuring a safe space for students to express their concerns and seek assistance.
