In a heart-wrenching incident in Rajasthan’s Kota, seventeen children and a woman were injured due to electric burns amidst the Shivratri celebrations. The tragedy struck on Friday morning in the Kali Basti area, leaving one child in a critical condition with about 70% burns.
Tragic Accident During Shivratri Festivities in Kota
The mishap occurred around 11 am when a group of children, participating in a procession from one temple to another, came into contact with a high-tension wire. The children were carrying a kalash (utensil) and a flag hoisted on an iron rod, which unfortunately touched the live wire, leading to the accident.

The injured, aged between 9 and 16 years, were promptly taken to Kota’s MBS Hospital for treatment. The incident drew immediate attention from notable figures, including Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and the collector Ravindra Goswami, who visited the hospital to oversee the treatment and support of the victims. Rajasthan Energy Minister Heeralal Nagar also visited the injured, emphasizing the government’s commitment to providing the best possible treatment and conducting a thorough investigation into the incident.
The community has been left in shock and sorrow over the tragic event during what should have been a festive and joyful occasion. The incident highlights the need for stringent safety measures during public celebrations to prevent such accidents in the future.
