In another distressing incident, a coaching student identified as Nisha Yadav from Auraiya district of Uttar Pradesh committed suicide on Wednesday night in Kota, known as the “Education City.” Nisha, who was preparing for the NEET entrance exam, had recently shifted to a hostel in Mahavir Nagar First area. This marks the 29th reported suicide case within a year in Kota, a prominent hub for coaching institutes.
The tragic incident comes just two days after Forid Hussain, a NEET aspirant from West Bengal, also took his life in Kota. The continuous occurrence of such suicides has raised concerns despite various measures implemented to address the mental health challenges faced by students in this highly competitive academic environment.
Nisha Yadav’s father, who had spoken to her on Wednesday, grew concerned when subsequent calls went unanswered. The hostel staff, upon investigation, found Nisha hanging in her room. The Jawahar Nagar police station was informed, and they broke into the room to discover the devastating scene.
Recent Shift to Hostel Raises Questions
Investigations revealed that Nisha had recently shifted from the Indira Vihar area to the hostel in Mahavir Nagar First. Her father, who was with her during this transition on November 23, had left Kota. The reasons behind Nisha’s tragic decision remain unknown, and the police are awaiting further details.
Deepening Concerns over Mental Well-being of Students
The rising number of suicides among coaching students in Kota has prompted discussions about the intense pressure and mental health challenges faced by aspirants preparing for competitive exams. Despite the tragedy, the specific factors leading to Nisha Yadav’s suicide have not yet been disclosed. The police have kept her body in the MBS Hospital mortuary, awaiting the arrival of family members for the post-mortem procedure.
