Rajasthan News: Starting Wednesday, restrictions on vehicular movement have been imposed within the state, particularly in districts falling under the National Capital Region (NCR) and adjoining areas. Among the regions contributing to poor air quality in the NCR and adjacent areas, Alwar, Bharatpur, and Bhiwadi in Rajasthan have been identified as prominent contributors.
Vehicular Movement Restrictions in NCR and Adjoining Areas to Address Air Quality Concerns
To address air quality concerns, a significant measure involves prohibiting buses below BS-VI emission standards from operating on the roads. According to the classification of the National Capital Region Planning Board, Alwar and Bharatpur are categorized under the NCR Sub-Region area.
An official order states, “All bus services between any NCR city/town in the State of Rajasthan and Delhi, as well as to any other city/town in NCR, shall be operated only through EV/CNG/BS-VI Diesel buses starting from November 1, 2023.”
Furthermore, the order specifies that “All bus services from non-NCR areas of Rajasthan to Delhi shall also be ensured through EV/CNG/BS-VI Diesel buses starting from January 1, 2024.”
Last week, the Commission for Air Quality Management in NCR and Adjoining Areas (CAQM) directed the state governments of Haryana, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh to enhance the efficiency and environmental-friendliness of public transport services within the NCR.
To achieve this, the Rajasthan government has formulated action plans aimed at replacing or relocating older BS-III and BS-IV Diesel-operated buses in phases. They plan to procure new BS-VI Diesel buses during 2023-24, with intentions to obtain 590 new BS-VI diesel buses in addition to outsourcing services for 440 BS-VI Diesel buses.
