In the aftermath of the quietude following the elections in Rajasthan, students from Rajasthan University have raised their voices. Over the past five days, a student agitation has unfolded in Jaipur, demanding the postponement of the Rajasthan Administrative Services (RAS) Mains Exam, the largest competitive exam in the state.
Escalation of Student Protests: Despite assurances from Education Minister Madan Dilawar on Friday, where he promised to convey the demonstrators’ concerns to Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, the situation escalated later in the day. A team of police officers arrived at the protest site with intentions to disperse the students.
Student-Police Confrontation: A heated exchange unfolded between the students and the police, as the latter urged the former to disperse. However, the students stood their ground, emphasizing their right to peaceful protest. The confrontation continued for nearly two hours, but the police eventually had to retreat without achieving their objective.
Nirmal Choudhary’s Involvement: Nirmal Choudhary, the former president of the Rajasthan University Students’ Union, arrived at the scene with some colleagues, intensifying the demonstration. In response to government actions, he asserted, “This is an educational institution. Any discussions or protests related to education will take place here. No one can remove us from here.”
Social Media Trend: Several videos depicting the altercation and a letter being handed over to the police have gone viral on social media. Nirmal Choudhary has become a trending figure on Twitter due to his stance against the police intervention and his commitment to the students’ cause.
