Rajasthan Weather Update: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh, forecasting severe heatwave conditions on Thursday, May 23. An orange alert has been declared for Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Gujarat.
IMD Issues Red Alert for Five States Amid Severe Heatwave Conditions
According to the IMD’s weather report, heatwave conditions are expected to persist in Jammu division, Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat, and Madhya Pradesh until May 26; in Delhi until May 23; in Uttar Pradesh from May 24 to May 26; and in Maharashtra until May 25.
The weather bulletin further states, “Heatwave to severe heatwave conditions are very likely in most parts of West Rajasthan; in many/some pockets over Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh, East Rajasthan, and West Uttar Pradesh during May 22 to 26; and in isolated pockets of northwest Madhya Pradesh and Delhi during May 24 to 26.”

The alert comes as temperatures have soared to extreme levels in several regions. Rajasthan’s Barmer recorded a maximum temperature of 48 degrees Celsius, while Haryana’s Sirsa and Uttar Pradesh’s Agra also experienced exceptionally high temperatures.
The IMD’s warnings highlight the urgency of taking precautionary measures to safeguard against the intense heat. Residents in the affected areas are advised to stay hydrated, avoid direct sunlight, and take necessary precautions to protect themselves from heat-related illnesses.
