Rajasthan Weather Update: In response to the increasing number of heat stroke cases in Rajasthan, the state’s Medical and Health Department announced on Tuesday the cancellation of leave for all medical personnel, directing them to remain at their respective workplaces. This measure aims to bolster the healthcare system’s capacity to manage and prevent heat stroke incidents effectively.
Under this new directive, medical staff will only be granted leave under special circumstances, and such leave must receive approval from the appropriate authorities. All leave-related information and approvals must be reported to the Medical and Health Directorate.
Rajasthan Health Department Cancels Medical Staff Leave Amid Rising Heat Stroke Cases
Following instructions from Additional Chief Secretary, Medical and Health, Shubhra Singh, the Directorate issued a circular mandating that doctors, nursing, and paramedical staff cancel their leave to ensure adequate arrangements for the prevention and treatment of heat stroke. Director of Public Health, Dr. Ravi Prakash Mathur, stated that control rooms in offices will operate 24 hours a day. In emergencies, people can use toll-free numbers 108 and 104, and helpline number 1070, which will be widely publicized.
The department has also ordered the reservation of beds for heat stroke patients in all medical institutions, ensuring the availability of necessary medicines, testing facilities, ice packs, and ice cubes. Ambulances are to be equipped with functional air conditioners and necessary medical supplies to handle emergencies.
ASHA workers have been tasked with raising public awareness about heat
ASHA workers have been tasked with raising public awareness about heat and heat stroke prevention through extensive IEC (information, education, and communication) activities. Additionally, the availability of medical kits at MNREGA sites and the supply of water and electricity in hospitals must be ensured.
Officials noted that daily reports on the arrangements must be submitted to the Directorate in a specified format.
The Meteorological Department has issued a warning for an intense heat wave over the next two days, with temperatures expected to rise to 46 to 47 degrees Celsius in some parts of the state. This forecast underscores the urgency of the health department’s comprehensive response to the heat wave crisis.
