Senior Congress leader Sonia Gandhi has embarked on a new chapter in her political career, being elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from Rajasthan on Tuesday. This move marks a significant shift for Gandhi, who previously served a remarkable six terms in the Lok Sabha, representing Rae Bareli constituency.
Farewell to Lok Sabha, Stepping into Rajya Sabha
Gandhi’s decision to step away from Lok Sabha elections, citing health and age concerns, resonated deeply with her constituents. In a heartfelt letter, she expressed her gratitude and deep connection with Rae Bareli, acknowledging the unwavering support she received over the years.
“Due to my health and age, I would not be able to contest the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls,” she wrote. “However, my heart will always belong to you.”
A New Chapter in the Upper House
While Gandhi bids farewell to Lok Sabha, her political journey continues in the Rajya Sabha. This shift opens a new avenue for her to contribute to national discourse and policymaking from the Upper House.
BJP Secures Seats in Rajasthan
It’s important to note that alongside Gandhi’s unopposed election, Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Chunnilal Garasiya and Madan Rathore also secured seats in the Upper House from Rajasthan. This highlights the multi-faceted nature of political dynamics in the state, where both Congress and BJP hold strong positions.
