BJP National President JP Nadda had reached Jaipur on 23 January 2023 for the meeting of the Core Committee. During this, Leader of Opposition Gulab Chand Kataria, Deputy Leader of Opposition Rajendra Rathore, former MPs Om Mathur and Narayan Panchariya and Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat discussed a hoarding. On which the picture of BJP’s symbol lotus with the map of Rajasthan is made and also the face of former CM Vasundhara Raje.
Poster put up outside BJP office
The hoarding featured a huge lotus surrounded by small and medium sized lotuses. When Rajendra Rathore caught sight of this, he quipped along with Gulab Chand Kataria, “There are 200 assembly seats in that Rajasthan map. There is a small lotus in our seats while there is a huge one in the middle.” In response to which Kataria said that we have to understand why it is big. Pointing to Shekhawat, Rathore laughed and said, “Aaj kal bhaisahab Delhi badi ho rahi hai”.
Often party posters and hoardings indicate which way the wind is blowing. Politicians are often involved in a tussle to get their faces on the posters. In the same context, a hoarding with a face outside the BJP’s state office in Jaipur has been the talk of the town for the past few days. That face is that of former CM Vasundhara Raje, whose supporters have never complained about her determination to return to the top post in the state. However, there was a clear reluctance of the high command in this regard.
The hoarding outside the BJP office earlier had Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP national president JP Nadda in the left corner, while Gulab Chand Kataria and BJP state president Satish Poonia were on the right. Vasundhara Raje was not there in the hoarding but now there is Raje among the pictures of Kataria and Poonia matching in size.
However, those close to Poonia, who is one of Raje’s main opponents in the Rajasthan BJP, deny that the poster has any meaning. A Poonia supporter said, “A few months ago the posters of Jan Aakrosh Yatra also had her picture. So this is nothing new.”
Vasundhara Raje’s face disappeared from BJP hoardings
However, Vasundhara Raje’s face disappeared from the party’s hoardings outside the party office and in other parts of the state after Poonia was appointed state BJP president in September 2019. A Raje supporter said, “New people came, they were given responsibilities but the party lost several bypolls under Poonia. The Jan Aakrosh Yatra received a lukewarm response and there are other issues like division within the party. The party is now saying that you had a chance and now is the time to face the truth.”
