Rajkot Airport: Canopy Collapse at Rajkot Airport Following Heavy Rain

Rajkot Airport – The soft roof of the canopy outside Rajkot airport’s passenger pick-up and drop area collapsed today following heavy rain. This incident adds to a series of similar mishaps that have occurred recently in Delhi and Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur.

The collapse at Rajkot airport happened in the passenger pick-up and drop area, but fortunately, no injuries were reported. The PTI news agency shared visuals of the incident, which revealed the extent of the damage.

In a similar incident in Delhi, the canopy collapse resulted in one fatality. Sources in the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation, as reported by The Times of India, indicated that the Rajkot canopy fell while maintenance workers were attempting to remove accumulated water from its surface.

Nationwide Rain-Related Incidents

This event is part of a broader pattern of rain-related incidents across India. Alongside the canopy collapses at airports in Delhi, Jabalpur, and Rajkot, several bridges have also collapsed in Bihar. India Today reported that five bridges have fallen in Bihar over the past 11 days, underscoring the widespread impact of the heavy rains.

Weather Forecast for Gujarat

The India Meteorological Department has forecast continued rainfall in Gujarat for the next five days, attributing the heavy rains to a cyclonic circulation over southern Gujarat. This weather pattern has brought widespread rain to the state, leading to disruptions and structural damage in various areas.

Authorities are on high alert to manage the situation and prevent further incidents. The Civil Aviation Ministry is expected to review safety measures at airports to ensure the integrity of structures in light of the ongoing adverse weather conditions.
