Rajnath Singh: At a ceremony to take held today, Tuesday, September 12, at Devak Bridge in Jammu, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will dedicate 90 infrastructure projects to the nation built by Border Road Organisation (BRO) at a cost of 2941 cr.
Rajnath Singh Unveils Roads, Bridges, Tunnels, and Airfields Across India
Rajnah Singh will formally open 22 roads, 63 bridges, the Nechiphu Tunnel in Arunachal Pradesh, two airfields in West Bengal, and two helipads at a ceremony hosted by the Border Roads Organisation at Devak Bridge in Jammu and Kashmir. According to ANI, the BRO used cutting-edge technology to build several of these important strategic projects in a single working season, completing them in a record amount of time.
Details of BRO’s Projects Across India
11 of these projects have been completed, along with 26 in Jammu and Kashmir, 36 in Arunachal Pradesh, 36 in Ladakh, 5 in Mizoram, 3 in Himachal Pradesh, 2 in Sikkim, Uttarakhand, and West Bengal, and one each in Nagaland, Rajasthan, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. At a cost of 2229 crore, 102 BRO infrastructure projects were dedicated to the nation in 2021. According to ANI, the Defence Minister will also take part in the North Tech Symposium, which is being put on by Northern Command and IIT Jammu. Another significant piece of infrastructure, according to a senior BRO officer, will be the 500 m-long Nechiphu Tunnel on the Balipara-Charduar-Tawang Road in Arunachal Pradesh.
Enhancing Connectivity and Airfields Across India
This tunnel, coupled with the currently under construction Sela Tunnel, will offer year-round accessibility to the important Tawang region. Both the armed personnel stationed there and visitors to the pristine Tawang will benefit from this. Bagdogra and Barrackpore Airfields in West Bengal will also be reopened and renovated on Tuesday. According to ANI, BRO successfully rebuilt these airfields for a cost of 529 crore. These airfields will facilitate commercial flight operations in the area while also enhancing the defensive and offensive architecture of the Indian Airforce around the northern borders. Additionally, the union minister will conduct an electronic shilanyash at Nyoma Airfield in Ladakh. Nyoma Airfield in Eastern Ladakh would be built for extensive strategic air assets at a cost of 218 crore rupees. “The construction of this airfield will tremendously boost the air infrastructure in Ladakh and augment the IAF capability along our Northern Borders,” the official said.
