The Ranchi Municipal Corporation is set to construct a bio-gas plant in Jhiri to convert wet waste from households into bio-gas. The municipal corporation plans to start this initiative in March, with the plant requiring approximately 300 tons of wet waste daily. To facilitate this, municipal officials have devised a new waste management plan, effective from February, which involves separate collection of wet and dry waste from households. The new system aims to ensure efficient waste management, with municipal vehicles scheduled to collect wet waste daily and dry waste every two to three days.

In a bid to manage wet waste effectively, Ranchi Municipal Corporation has initiated a trial phase for its waste collection plan. This includes stopping the daily collection of mixed waste from households and, instead, collecting wet and dry waste separately. The objective is to enhance waste management efficiency and maintain cleanliness. To support the upcoming bio-gas plant, regular daily collections of wet waste will be essential, and municipal vehicles are expected to visit localities daily. Additionally, the collection of dry waste is scheduled to occur every two to three days.
For the first time under the new waste management system, a compactor successfully collected wet waste in Jhiri on Monday. The municipal corporation aims to scale up its efforts, with plans to deploy at least 10 compactors daily for the regular collection of wet waste once the bio-gas plant becomes operational.
