Ranchi News: In cases of custodial deaths, the Jharkhand government will henceforth provide compensation up to Rs. 5 lakh. Additionally, it will pay up to Rs 1 lakh in compensation for property damage due to racial tensions and fights. Tuesday’s meeting of Hemant Soren’s cabinet at the Jharkhand Mantralaya (Project Building) saw approval of a state department of home, jail and disaster management proposal to pay compensation of Rs. 5 lakh to the family members of jail inmates who pass away due to administrative errors and fighting with other inmates as well as other proven causes.

Cabinet secretary Vandana Dadel said that, “A sum of Rs 4 lakh will be paid as compensation in cases where deaths occur due to lapses on the part of the jail authorities and its doctors. If a prisoner dies by suicide in jail, a compensation of Rs 3 lakh will be paid to his or her family members.” A plan to compensate those whose properties are harmed in communal tensions and conflicts was also accepted by the cabinet. Dadel continued, “A compensation of Rs 1 lakh would be provided for losses to immovable properties and up to Rs 50,000 for damages to moveable properties.
Jharkhand cabinet approves tourism development authority and power projects
According to officials, the decision was made in the wake of communal violence in Lohardaga in April 2022 and Palamu in February 2023. The creation of a Netarhat Tourism Development Authority (NTDA) received approval from the government. The NTDA will be in charge of creating the necessary infrastructure for tourism within the Netarhat panchayat and clearing out encroachments. It would have a local deputy commissioner as a member and be headed by the secretary of tourism. Additionally, a proposal to establish unique registration rules for businesses involved in tourism was also approved. The construction of substations, grid substations, transmission lines, and power evacuation lines in Chatra, Bokaro, and the districts under the control of the Damodar Valley Corporation were also permitted, totaling Rs. 4,569.2 crore. Additionally, the cabinet agreed to a plan to hold the state assembly’s session from July 28 to August 4 and formally requested Bhavan to do so. The cabinet meeting on Tuesday accepted 35 measures in all.
