Ranchi News: With technological advancements skyrocketing and the relentless power of the internet, cyber crime has also been on the rise in different parts of the nation. We are aware of Jamtara and its frauds, however, Ranchi is not far behind now. Quite a few cases of cyber crime had emerged in the district in the past but what happened recently might leave you shocked. Even the deputy commissioner is not safe, as scammers created a fake Facebook account in his name and demanded money from several people.

Cybercrime in the name of Deputy Commissioner

Scams in the name of common people are routine and widespread however, now even the senior officials are not safe. An unusual case of fraud came to the surface in Ranchi when a scammer decided to scam the Deputy Commissioner (DC), Rahul Kumar Sinha. The criminal(s) reportedly created a fake account on the popular social media platform – Facebook in the name of the Deputy Commissioner (DC), Rahul Kumar Sinha and started demanding money from many people online under the purview of made-up circumstances. The criminal(s) also used WhatsApp to their advantage by sending messages to various people from the number – 7008471039. The DC has urged the people to report immediately of any such incident.

Steps taken by the DC office to contain the situation

The DC office highlighted key factors for distinguishing between original and fake accounts to spread awareness among the public. One of the key factors is the number of friends – the original account of DC has 10k friends in the friend list, while the fake account had only 2. Alternatively, the DC has also assured the public that all the necessary steps have been put into place and the perpetrators will be caught at the earliest.
