Ranchi News: Ranchi’s traffic officials are leaving no stone unturned to prioritize the safety of pedestrians and city residents. To enforce speed limits and curb reckless driving, the city has implemented an online e-challan system for offenders who violate the specified rules.
Stringent speed limits for urban safety
According to a 2019 notification by the transport department, Jharkhand has set maximum speed limits for all types of vehicles on national highways and state roads within municipal areas. Law enforcement agencies are equipped with advanced traffic monitoring systems to vigilantly enforce these restrictions.
Speed limits for specific areas
Any vehicle shall comply with a speed limit of 25 km per hour in hospitals and educational premises, which includes all types of vehicles such as motorcycles, scooters, autorickshaws, cars etc. In the city limits, two wheeler riders shall be allowed to go up to 60 kilometres per hour and autorickshaw drivers must maintain a minimum speed of 50 km an hour. At 70 km an hour, cars and other road transport vehicles can travel.
Speed limits on National highways
A speed limit of 80 km/h has been raised for motorcycles, scooter and motor vehicles in National highways outside municipal areas. Speed of 85 km per hour should be followed by trucks carrying goods. If people are driving on the public roads then the speed limit is 40 to 80 km per hour and 60 to 70 km per hour in all other areas.
Strict enforcement to prevent accidents
The enforcement of speed limit regulations both within and outside municipal areas has been put into effect immediately. The transport department urges all vehicle operators to strictly adhere to the limits to prevent accidents and ensure the safety of the general public. Violators will face strict consequences.
The Ranchi urban traffic police, Jitwahan Oraon reiterated that the surveillance campaign was intended to create a secure environment for vulnerable road users such as patients and students. To educate and inform people about the speed limits, the officials have planned to put signs. The efforts of the authorities to make Ranchi a safer city for all its citizens are reflected in continuing efforts on speed regulation and pedestrian safety.
