Cyclone Michaung: As cyclone Michaung approaches the south Andhra Pradesh coast, the IMD has issued an orange alert for Andhra Pradesh and the adjacent north Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coasts. Rain was falling nonstop, flooding parts of Chennai and the surrounding districts. Due to the cancellation of numerous trains and flights on Monday, transport services suffered greatly.
Alerted Districts in Andhra Pradesh
The districts of Tirupati, Nellore, Prakasam, Bapatla, Krishna, West Godavari, Konaseema, and Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh have been placed under alert. Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, the chief minister, met with senior officials on Monday to review the cyclone and launch a number of relief initiatives.
Post-Cyclone Rainfall
Following Cyclone Michauang, Chennai and surrounding districts of Tamil Nadu experienced unrelenting rain. The Indian Army’s 2 Madras Unit responded to calls for help from the Mugalivakkam and Manapakkam areas of Chennai, which were severely affected by flooding and heavy downpours.
Weather System Movement
Up until 8:30 am on Monday, the weather system had travelled northwest at a speed of 8 km/h. It was centred in the same area off the coasts of north Tamil Nadu and south Andhra Pradesh. According to the official, its centre is located 90 km east-northeast off Chennai, 170 km southeast of Nellore, 200 km northeast off Puducherry, 300 km south-east off Bapatla, and 320 km south of Machilipatnam.
