Escalation in Border Clashes Sparks Urgency in Assam-Meghalaya Boundary Negotiations

At a shooting incident on November 22 at Mukroh near a contentious portion of the Assam-Meghalaya interstate boundary, at least six people—five from Meghalaya and one from Assam—were killed. The chief ministers of the two adjoining states are scheduled to meet early next month for another round of formal negotiations to reorganise the interstate boundary between the two states. Assam and Meghalaya agreed to a border accord last year to settle their differences in six areas. According to insiders, negotiations for the remaining six points of contention have moved to an advanced stage.
