At least four people were shot dead by a Railway Protection Force (RPF) jawan on board a train from Jaipur to Mumbai. The deceased included three passengers and one RPF Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI). The Jawan, identified as Railway Protection Force Constable Chetan, shot all the four victims. As per the media reports, the incident took place on Monday around 5 am between Vapi and Borivali Station. The constable has been arrested and is taken into study at Borivali Police station.
Police shares statement
The Borivali Police has now released a statement sharing details of the horrific encounter. According to a statement by the police, “It was reported on train no 12956 at 5.23 on 31.7.23 that there had been a firing in B5 coach. It was confirmed that CT Chetan, on escort duty, had fired on the escort incharge ASI Tika Ram. The train has arrived at BVI and, as per advance information, casualties of 3 civilians have also been reported, in addition to ASI. Sr DSC BCT is on the way to the site.”
“The said constable has been caught. DCP North GRP has been informed. Detailed report to follow,” the police statement added.
Constable shoots ASI dead
The accused, RPF Constable Chetan Singh, opened fire from his official automatic weapon at around five in the morning, killing another RPF colleague, his escort duty in charge ASI Tika Ram Meena, and three passengers on the train, which was on the way to Mumbai from Jaipur, officials said.

While Tika Ram Meena was a resident of Rajasthan’s Sawai Madhopur, Chetan Singh belongs to Hathras, Uttar Pradesh. After killing his senior, the constable also short three passengers dead in another bogie, as per officials. He was caught by police at Mira Road after RPF officials were informed.
