Sanjeevni Scam: Delhi Court issues summon to Rajashtan CM Ashok Gehlot in Defamation suit

Rajasthan CM has been issued summon in Sanjeevni Scam case.

Rajasthan News: On Thursday, Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court summoned Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot in a defamation complaint filed by Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat. The court has asked for Gehlot to appear on August 7. The matter pertains to criminal defamation case against Gehlot filed by Union Minister of Jal Shakti Gajendra Singh Shekhawat for his alleged defaming in Sanjivani Credit Cooperative Society scam.

The case was filed in April against Gehlot who had accused Shekhwat and his family including his deceased mother, as perpetrators of the scam. Shekhawat has also sought monetray compensation in the defamation case. The summon was issued by Special Judge of the MP-MLA court, Justice Harjeet Singh Jaspal.

What is Sanjivani Scam?

The Sanjivani scam concerns instance of thousands of investors who were tricked of 900 crore rupees. Allegedly the invested money was transferred to companies owned by Shekhawat and his family and close aides but their roles were never investigated. Ashok Gehlot took the moment to accused Shekhwat on multiple occasions

The complain also detailed Gehlot accusing Shekhwat’s deceased mother in the case “… false, uncalled, derogatory and defamatory statements have been made with the aim to tarnish his image in the eyes of the general public, the voters and his kith and kin, with the object of gaining an undue political mileage.”

Probing defamation charge

In March, Delhi court had ordered the police to investigate defamation complaint filed against Gehlot. As per the court order “The worthy Joint Commissioner of Police concerned shall investigate the matter either himself or through an officer not below the rank of an Inspector. The investigation report be filed by the next date of hearing.”

Shekhwat has also accused Gehlot of showcasing bitter resentment towards him because he defeated his son, Vaibhav Gehlot in last elections by a huge margin.
