Supreme Court: The Supreme Court clips LG’s wings again, defers the DERC chairman’s oath ceremony till 11th July. The court also issues notice to Centre and LG office. This verdict comes after the Delhi Government challenged the appointment notification. The court will now hear the matter on July 11 and asked the Centre to file their responses to the petition.
AAP Govt challenged the Appointment in SC
The Kejriwal Government had challenged the Appointment in the Supreme Court. Umesh Kumar was appointed as the DERC Chairman on 21st June. The LG V K saxena had asked Arvind Kejriwal to have the oath taking ceremony through video Conferencing. The LG had also raised the delay in the oath taking ceremony of the judge. The appointment of the DERC chairman has been the issue of conflict between Delhi Government and LG following the Government’s ordinance on control of services.
The Court listed the Petition on July 11th
The AAP had earlier challenged the petition in the Supreme Court. The court said, Having regard to urgency of the matter let the petition be listed on July 11. It will be understood that administering of oath in pursuance of notification of June 21st to the Former Judge of Allahabad High Court shall stand deferred presently.
