Scorching Heat Dries Up Ganga, Varanasi Ghats Left High and Dry

Due to the Ganga's retreat due to the extreme summer heat, Delhi and Varanasi are facing serious issues that may increase the city's water shortage and affect ghats. The Delhi government is pleading with Haryana for more water to meet daily needs during this heatwave.

Varanasi News

Varanasi News: This summer, the nation’s citizens are suffering greatly from the intense heat. People are having issues because of the rising temperatures, particularly in northern India. The effects of the intense heat were felt in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, when the Ganga’s water level dropped to its lowest point ever. The Ganga has left the ghats due to the low water level; shattered boats, trash strewn everywhere, and broken boulders mar the ghats’ natural beauty.

Severe Water Crisis Grips Delhi

Meanwhile, since last week, the nation’s capital has been experiencing a severe water crisis. As a result, inhabitants are largely dependent on water tankers for their daily needs and are finding it extremely difficult to meet their basic necessities.

Senior AAP politician and minister Atishi stated on Saturday that the Delhi government has requested Haryana to release more water into the Yamuna on humanitarian grounds due to the water scarcity.

Dependence on Water Tankers for Daily Needs

The water minister of Delhi stated during a news conference in the nation’s capital that the Munak Canal and Wazirabad Reservoir are lacking in raw water, causing a production deficit of 70 million gallons per day (MGD) in the city. Due to a shortage of raw water, Delhi’s typical water production of about 1,002 MGD dropped to 932 MGD on Friday, according to her.

The minister stated, “The Delhi government has appealed to Haryana to release additional water for the people of the city on humanitarian grounds,” and further stated that Yamuna water share concerns may be handled once the heatwave passed, according to PTI.
