Manipur Violence: The security forces stopped a mob from attacking the Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) in Manipur and robbing it of its weapons and equipment. One mob member died as a result of the fight. Today, hundreds flocked to the IRB station in the Thoubal district of Manipur, where the event occurred. In a statement, the Indian Army claimed that the mob blocked roads so that the forces couldn’t move. The Rapid Action Force and the Assam Rifles, however, quickly took control of the situation.
Security Forces Displayed Resilience and Coordination to Foil Weapon Loot Attempt in Manipur
The Army Tweeted, “An attempt to loot weapons from an India Reserve Battalion at Khangabok in Thoubal district of Manipur was successfully thwarted by security forces today. One rioter was killed while a few others were injured during the failed attempt. The mob had laid road blocks to prevent the movement of reinforcements. However, additional columns of the Assam Rifles and Rapid Action Force were able to induct and the situation was brought under control by the synergised efforts of security forces”
State Police Intensify Security Measures and Detain Scores Amid Ongoing Violence
The state police stated in a statement on Monday that there were tense situations and sporadic acts of violence in several areas of Manipur. As the violence continues unabatedly, around 118 checkpoints have been set up and 326 individuals have been detained throughout the state. Since May 3, when a Kuki solidarity march organised by the All Tribal Students Union of Manipur (ATSUM) to oppose the Meitei community’s demand for a Scheduled Tribe state took a violent turn, Manipur has been the scene of protracted conflicts.
