Bhagwant Mann: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann presided over a meeting to review the state’s law and order situation. He emphasized the urgency to eliminate the drug menace from Punjab. Mann directed the officials to seize the property of those involved in drug peddling.
Mann said that the property of these drug dealers must be seized with immediate effect in order to ensure future tough action. He said the government had already picked up the “big fish” involved in drug trafficking.

Changes in relevant laws soon
The Chief Minister pledged that if necessary, changes to the relevant laws would be done in a timely manner. If drugs are sold under the jurisdiction of any officers, he would be held responsible, Mann said. Mann also warned of strict action against those officers found indulging in the drug trade.
The chief minister also asked the officers to involve villagers and persuade them to unanimously pass resolutions for making their villages drug-free. These drug free villages will be given incentives and receive grants under the Rural Development Fund. The CM said the security of such villages that pass the resolution against drug menace, will also be ensured by all means.
Action against extortion calls
In the meeting, Mann also discussed the issue of extortion calls. He ordered the police to take strict action against the caller for making if extortion demands.
Additionally, the CM also asked officers to work hard and ensure that the benefits of the state government’s development-oriented schemes trickle down to the grassroots level. Top priority must be accorded to public welfare work, he told the officers.
