NCP vs NCP: The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Sharad Pawar has summoned a meeting of the national executive in Delhi today. On Wednesday, factions of Sharad Pawar and Ajit Pawar held separate meetings in Mumbai to showcase show of strength in numbers game.  New posters of NCP leader Sharad Pawar and his daughter Supriya Sule are at display outside part headquarters in Feroz Shah Road. The old posters of Sharad Pawar with Ajit Pawar and Praful Patel have been removed. Both Sharad Pawar and Supriya Sule have left for the meeting to be held at 3:00 pm in Delhi.

Poster Wars

Posters welcoming Sharad Pawar have been put outside party office in Delhi. It is a critical time for the veteran leader who aims to showcase a big show of strength amid crisis that unfolded with Ajit Pawar joining BJP-Shiv Sena alliance last week.

Posters saying “In the fight of truth and lie, the entire country is with Sharad Pawar” and “India’s history is such that it has never forgiven those who have betrayed” have been put up to display. A poster design put up by Rashtrawadi Vidyarthi Congress shows a scene from movie ‘Baahubali’ implicating Ajit Pawar and Praful Patel as traitors.

The Numbers Play

Amidst two separate meetings called by NCP leaders Sharad Pawar and Ajit Pawar, MLAs flunged to thier respective sides to showcase support and loylaty. In Sharad Pawar’s meeting 13 NCP MLAs showed up while Ajit Pawar’s rebellious faction had support of 31 MLAs. The numbers clearly show that Ajit Pawat has got one over the veteran leader in terms of MLAs supporting him.

The NCP has total strength of 53 MLAs in Maharashtra assembly. As per the anti-defection law, Ajit Pawar needs to secure support from 36 MLAs in order to avoid disqualification. The new Deputy CM of Maharashtra has been claiming support of more than 40 MLAs and multiple members form Legislative Council as well.
