Senior Congress leader, while speaking in Kalaburagi during the launch of a book – a biopic of former Congress MLA BR Patil, stoked a controversy after he reiterated that he is never against Hindu religion but is anti – Hindutva. Further even went on to state that there was a scope for “murder” “violence” and “division.”
Siddaramiah stokes controversy , says he is not anti-Hindu but anti-Hindutva
Also stated that Hindutva is different form the Hindu religion,
“I am a Hindu myself, but I am against Manuvada and Hindutva.”
He also stated,
“Probably most of us here are against Hindutva, we are not against Hindu religion,”
Further asked,
“is there scope for murder and violence in any religion?
He also claimed,
“But in Hindutava and Manuvada, there is scope for murder, violence and division,”
Siddaramiah consistent in his anti-Hindutva remarks
Siddaramaih has long courted controversy by continuously criticising Hindutva in his speeches and remarks. He also has claimed that he was a Hindu but was against Hindutva on January 8 of this year. He has also reaffirmed that he was never against the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya but opposed to using it for political gains.
Siddaramiah had stated
“I am a Hindu. How can I be anti-Hindu? I am opposed to Hindutva and politics around Hindu faith. All the faiths are equal according to the Indian Constitution,”
The BJP has accused the leader of the opposition in the Karnataka Assembly of being anti-Hindu. He has also been referred to as “Siddaramullah Khan” by the BJP National General Secretary CT Ravi in the past.
