Mumbai Air Hostess Death: According to authorities, a suspected killer of air hostess Rupal Ogrey committed suicide while being held in a Mumbai jail on Thursday. Vikram Atwal, the accused, hanged himself in his cell using his trousers as a rope. Ogrey, a Chhattisgarh native, was discovered on 3 September with her throat cut in a leased flat in a private community in the area of Andheri. For training with a prestigious private airline, she had been to Mumbai in April.
The Arrest and Chilling Details of the Crime
Atwal, who had been performing cleaning duties for the residential society for the previous year, was taken into custody on Monday. He had admitted to the offence. Atwal allegedly tried to rape Ogrey after entering her home under the pretence of cleaning. But she pushed back and resisted. She was then murdered by having her throat cut, and the suspects dumped her body in the loo. He changed into a different outfit and left the area, which was captured on a CCTV camera. The police discovered that Atwal spent almost two hours in Ogrey’s flat between 11:30 pm and 1:30 pm.
Discovery of the Crime Scene and Arrest of the Suspect
When Ogrey’s cousin sister’s phone was unanswered, she dispatched a friend to check on her at the flat. Ogrey was laying in a pool of blood in the restroom when the friend used a keymaker to open the door. A forensic team was dispatched to the scene after the murder was reported to the police. In bushes close to the housing society where Ogrey lived, a nine-inch knife and the clothes the accused was wearing when the crime was committed were found. According to an official, the police detained Atwal after gathering evidence.
