Taxi Fare Hike: Shared taxi fares on popular routes from Mumbai, including Nashik, Shirdi, and Pune, are set to increase significantly. This news comes after the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Transport Authority (MMRTA) approved a fare revision for both black-and-yellow non-AC taxis and blue-and-silver AC taxis operating on these routes.
Increased Fares for AC and Non-AC Taxis
- Mumbai-Nashik: Passengers will pay Rs 100 more for AC taxis, with the new fare being Rs 575 instead of Rs 475. Non-AC taxi fares remain unchanged.
- Mumbai-Shirdi: Expect a Rs 200 increase for AC taxis, bringing the new fare to Rs 825 from Rs 625. No change for non-AC taxis.
- Mumbai-Pune: Both AC and non-AC taxis will see a Rs 50 fare hike. The new fare for AC taxis will be Rs 575 (from Rs 525) and Rs 500 (from Rs 450) for non-AC taxis.
Fare Hike Reasons and Implementation Timeline
The MMRTA based its decision on the Maharashtra government’s approval of the Khatua panel report, which recommended taxi fare revisions. Additionally, demands from taxi driver unions were considered.
While an official implementation date hasn’t been announced, Regional Transport Office (RTO) sources suggest the fare hike will likely come into effect next month. The MMRTA has directed RTOs to prominently display the revised fares at taxi stands across Mumbai, including Dadar.
Planning Your Commute
Commuters travelling on these routes from Mumbai should factor in the upcoming fare hike when planning their trips. Consider carpooling or exploring public transport options like buses or trains for more budget-friendly alternatives.
