The Bihar chief minister gave a strong hint about Tejashwi Yadav’s role, which may be interpreted as a clear indication of what Nitish Kumar’s future plans are.
Tuesday in Patna, during a meeting with Mahagathbandhan MLAs and MLCs, Nitish Kumar stopped short of naming Tejashwi as the candidate for chief minister in the 2025 general elections.
The chief minister has recently sparked speculations that if he decided to relocate to Delhi to dabble in national politics, Yadav, the son of former opponent and RJD president Lalu Prasad, will take over as chief minister.
Kumar, who was chosen by his party, the JD (U), as the PM-face for 2024, added that he no longer desired to be the chief minister or prime minister of Bihar. However, his goal of destroying BJP is still in place.
During the meeting of MLAs, Nitish Kumar said, ‘Neither am I a Prime Ministerial candidate, nor am I a Chief Ministerial candidate. My goal is to defeat the BJP.’ He repeated that ‘Tejashwi has to be encouraged’. He also said “we are of the view that it will benefit the grand alliance which is fighting the communal forces represented by the BJP. Tejashwi ji is a young and energetic leader”.

Challenge is the 2024 elections: Tejashwi Yadav
“Right now we are working together, under Nitish Kumar’s guidance. Challenge is the 2024 elections and we will fight for that,” deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav said.
Ironically, neither of the leaders used to agree with the other and was a harsh critic of them. To the point when Tejashwi Yadav referred to Nitish as a “weary and wasted” leader who need to step down. The dispute dates back to 2017, when Nitish Kumar reactivated his partnership with the BJP, fired Tejashwi Yadav as his deputy, and abandoned the RJD. Everything, however, changed in August when all parties decided to “leave the past be the past” and pick the BJP as a common foe.
